Every year, there’s usually at least one tear-jerking Super Bowl commercial. This year, Google’s ad may come out on top.

On Tuesday morning, Google released its 90-second Super Bowl commercial which stars an 85-year old grandfather who’s using Google Assistant to remember his late wife, Loretta.

Google’s Super Bowl ad

The ad is titled “Loretta.” Throughout this video, a grandfather asks his Google Assistant to help him not to forget the memory of the love of his life. Google Assistant assists him by recording memories of Loretta. The assistant queues things like the couples’ favorite movie or a list of endearing quotes Loretta used to say.

On the official Google blog, Chief Marketing Officer Lorraine Twohill said the narrator in the spot is the grandfather of a Google employee whose story inspired the ad. “At 85, to an audience of millions, he’ll be making his film debut,” she wrote.

On the impetus behind their ad’s storyline, Twohill said, “The ad reflects our goal to build products that help people in their daily lives, in both big and small ways. Sometimes that’s finding a location, sometimes it’s playing a favorite movie, and sometimes it’s using the Google Assistant to remember meaningful details.”

The spot ends with the grandfather saying, “Remember that I’m the luckiest man in the world.” Is anyone else casually bawling their eyes out, or is that just me?
