It’s the holiday movie that millions of people love and maybe just as many millions love to hate. In fact, if you google the phrase “holiday movie people love to hate,” Love Actually pops up as the second hit, just after 1993’s Home for the Holidays.

Yet few would dispute the movie’s rightful spot in the classic holiday movie pantheon. After all, it spawned a whole new genre (the holiday-themed movie featuring an ensemble cast and intertwined story lines); showcased the most popular holiday song of the modern era (All I Want for Christmas Is You, arguably sung even better in the movie by 10-year-old Olivia Olson than by Mariah Carey); and inspired a 10-minute sequel in 2017 called Red Nose Day Actually.

Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at this modern holiday movie classic.
